  What Jesus Taught About Faith

#7 “Faith: What’s Between Possible and Impossible”

Matthew 17:20 “And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”

In context Jesus’ disciples asked why they had no power to do what he had done. Why did they do the right things with no positive results? He answered it was because they were just going through the motions but really didn’t believe it would happen. He calls it “unbelief”. So again we see we either believe or we don’t. There is no in between. Then Jesus says that if they had faith nothing would be impossible. So faith is the difference between what is possible and impossible.

According to Jesus faith is the difference from going through the motions and actually having power to produce. Faith is the difference between exercising religious activity and tapping into miraculous ability. Faith allows us to tap into divine resources, while unbelief locks us out from any divine potential.

The potential and power of faith is unlimited as taught by Jesus. He prescribes this access to us when he says “and nothing shall be impossible unto you”. Faith allows us to access divine possibilities. This is such an overwhelming thought that most just dismiss it because it is hard to believe. I can only assume this was purposeful by Jesus. Those few who can believe in such an enormous and extravagant message will find that what seemed impossible is actually possible.

Jesus is expanding our thinking so we can rise in our ability to believe. The majority will mentally negotiate this teaching away. If we can’t expand our thinking we will not be able to expand our ability to believe. Most of us have very narrow boundaries of what we believe in possible. We are limiting ourselves and limiting God working in our lives with our limited thinking.

The truth is very few will have the ability to believe that mountains can be moved, if any. However, we can expand our thinking to believe way more is possible than we have seen and been taught. This teaching should be meditated on until we can broaden the boundaries of what we have previously believed. We need to see that it isn’t just God himself with unlimited power and potential but that we can access that very divine power and potential if we can believe!
